williams or 172 for track car? help??
Discussion
i don't know what to decide between a clio williams and a 172 as a track car i will drive to the track in, i've heard the early 172 is better than the 2nd edition is this true? someone told me clio williams is a more raw drive and they handle excellent, noticed that there 22bhp less than a 172 though so thats drawing me towards a 172. any help advice responses would be much appreciated, cheers jack
I'd plump for a Williams as a trackcar. Definately more agile than the 172 in the bends. It may be 22bhp down but its also circa 100kg lighter. Supposed to have a cracking chassis. Potentially less reliable/confortable but as its not a daily driver no big deal.
Some do rate the Ph1 172 over the Ph2 as it is more raw - tad lighter, cable throttle over drive by wire (better for heel and toe). Cheaper to boot!

hi went looking at the williams today with 85k drove all the way to edinburgh which was a 500 mile round trip and it was a pig, bodywork was battered and it would'nt start, going looking at a williams 2 tomorrow with 112k not drove one yet but hoping that will win me over, arches need doing on the one i'm going looking at not sure what that will cost... also what would it cost for a rebuild and a slight tune any ideas??? thanks in advance jack
hi, bought a williams 2 today with 129k on the clock, but the bodywork is mint apart frombad arches only on inside though and needs a rear shocker also, drivers electric window switch does'nt work also, loads of history with it and can't believe how tidy it is, wheels are like brand new, not as quick as i thought but still fairly quick, handles like a dream though, love it

I had this problem with my old clio but was easily fixable. The reason the electric windows might not be working could be down to the switch, if you take out the swithc and then take it apart which is quite easy to do then check the metal conectors on both sides of the switch, you will probably find that they are scoted black and possibly not even making contact with the switch. Get a knife and scrape off the crap and bend them a little so they can make better contact. This should then hopefully sort out your windows.Bayliss V6 said:
if only i'd seen this forum earlier mate i could have sold you a ready made williams track car with cage n cams etc. I love my williams track car, it handles great and certainly knows how to upset EVO's and the likes on track, pretty nifty around most circuits
HiIs your Clio still for sale ? If so could you contact me to discuss.
Details on my profile.
Thanks
