1.2 02 CLIO CONVERSION TO 182 ENGINE... WORTH IT?
Discussion
IM LOOKIN ... in time this is... to convert my neat little 1.2 16v clio and have the 182 or 172 lump n suspension n other bits put in .. im lookin at 2875 for the conversion by k-tecracing.com but my reason for this is that im 18 n im findin the measly 75hp a bit crap n im want the power plus im gonna leave it registered a 1.2 so my insurrance gonna be the biggest benefit me... is it worth it?
What exactly would the point be?
For starters you can buy a 2002 Clio 172 for around the cost of the conversion, and secondly you would be paying the insurance company to be uninsured when you hit something and they discover you have a greatly modified car and wash their hands of you.

And people of the age of 17 & 18 always wonder why their insurance premiums are so high
Not really a very clever idea is it to undertake a conversion to make your basic 1.2 clio more powerful with a bigger engine & then, by the sounds of it, you're going to lie to your insurer about the conversion & claim its still a 1.2 - i'd imagine that will be fun once you have an accident & your insurers wont cover you leaving you liable for all costs, etc. Also failing to notify the dvla of the engine change will leave you in trouble if you get pulled & car is checked only to find that the engine doesnt match the details on file
As said for the price of the conversion you can either buy a 172 itself & pay the relevant premium for proper insurance or why not just put up with a car with less power for another year or 2 by which time you'll have built up some ncb (hopefully) & then can afford the real thing itself
