Hey,

After having bored everyone I know and people on here about how i'm going to upgrade my engine etc and what to buy, my 1.9 went pop on sunday thus I do actually have to get a new engine now - perfect time for an upgrade me thinks. I have been advised to speak to Miles but if anyone comes across a good MI16 engine in a week or so then please let me know.

Cheers.

It's been 24hrs and I miss the pug already!!

dont get hung up on the Mi16. any 16 valver or turbo engine will make your 205 feel completely refreshed and have a more modern performance to boot

When (if) mine goes I'll be after either a GTI-6 or a xantia turbo to replace it...

Most people go for 306 gti-6 engines nowadays - less prone to oil surge and a much nicer, more modern engine all round.

Don't discount the std 1.9 8V, a good rebuilt one on twin 45's will out run a std mi16. And if you are buying a used engine (non-rebuilt) then who's to say that it won't go pop a few months down the line anyway.

Granted it won't be as economical, but if the carbs are set up properly it's fine to drive day-to-day - in fact a lot smoother than most std injection one's. Albeit, you do need to get the carbs fettled once a year which can be a pain I suppose.

It's a fair point, but the gti-6 engine is plug and play and likely to be OK without a rebuild - most 8V engines are getting on for 20 years old now...

Although a carb'd 8V will sound awesome

more opportunities for flames out of the exhaust too hehe

All good points cheers, money prevailing i'm tempted to go down the gti-6 route. Now just got to find an engine and somewhere to fit it. Time for 205gtidrivers me thinks?

If I had the choice i'd also go for the gti-6 engine. You should be able to do the whole lot properly for around £800, or less if you're handy with finding a scrapped car. My mi16 was £1200 to rebuild, plus another £150 to try to make it less likely to have oil surge issues.

Are you using the car on track or just on the road? If it's only on road then I would still be tempted to put a decent 1.9 8V in it and keep it original.
