Hi guys

I puruchased my 06 'Full fat' Clio 197 (Cup Chassis) about a month ago.
It'd only covered a mere 11k miles and recently serviced by Renault.

However - i'm noticing the 'top-up oil level' message displaying a lot.
Granted one was after a long run up from Leeds to Glasgow (1L oil to recover). I've since done 1200 'local' miles and had to top up a further 2L of oil...

I've been advised that the Renault Sport engines with them being high-revving do burn oil when driven hard - but for every day use I'm concerned. Should I be? What are your experiences?

It's gone into the garage for them to look at - would like to be armed with some info from other owners if they try and fill me with the usual *** that comes from their mouth smile

Cheers all

Lee

To be honest I haven't noticed that. I am aware they are meant to be thirsty on oil, but isn't too bad at all. Thats with a combination on hard driving, and motorway cruising.

Mine has done about 6000 miles since its first service and I'm not even one bar down on the oil level display. However I check it regularly with the dispstick, not sure I 100% trust a computer with my oil top ups!

Are you checking the dipstick or just relying on the dashboard display? Does sound a bit odd that is that thirsty - dodgy sensor perhaps?

My 172 Cup (engine is not that different) barely uses any oil in between changes every 6k, and it gets driven very hard on occasion. Only time I've noticed any drop in level is after 2 days hooning around north Wales.

An '06 plater won't have the Cup suspension - the 197 came as a "full fat" model only from summer '06 to late '07.

Mine uses a reasonable amount of oil; perhaps 1 litre every 10k miles. I'm sure the handbook will advise what's a normal tolerance. My old Fiat Coupe 20V Turbo's handbook said that 1 litre every 1,000km was ok (650 miles)!

Along with John D, I have a 172ff and did an oil change 3500 miles ago when I got it.
Not touched the oil level and dash indicator shows full still.

Could you find the previous owner and ask them if it was an issue with them? Unless it was a Renault demo..... Was it serviced using the correct oil?
I put castrol formula RS in mine and no problems.
