Hello
Im new here. Im doing loads of reaserch on the best engine to put in my 205 gti auto. I know the best thing would be to buy another car but the engine aint to good and ive spent lots of money restoring it allready. Im a member of 205gti drivers and i have got alot of information of them. But im asking differnt opinions. does anyone know if a 1998 2.0 406 16v engine fits on the standard mounts in a 205 gti? also if anyone has any other options for an engine please do.

thankyou for your time

Firstly, does it have to be an auto?

Is it a 1.6 or 1.9 GTi ? ..... i recently did a 1.6 16v (Saxo VTS/106 GTi engine) conversion for a mate of mine on a 205 Rallye mainly cos he was sick of people telling him to put the usual Mi16 or GTi-6 engine in it , and i've got to be honest it goes very very well

The 406 has an XU10 engine, so will need a 306XSi (I think) engine mount for it to fit. Offers nothing really over the current 8v you have, performance-wise and is way down on an Mi16. Stick another 8v in or an Mi16. They are both plu'n'play.

It was up on Pistonheads for sale for about a week he then saw sence and took it off sale ..... he's now purchased Cat Cam 708's and KMS management for it !

The 16v engine feel straight into his 205 as it was running a TU 1.4 engine before , not sure about the GTi model tho ,it has been done and i know a guy local to me who has 2 done with the 16v TU engine

The Rallye and Saxo (VTS) both came with TU engines - so a much easier swap than converting to an XU car.

I presume that you have a K plate 1.9 auto from the aborted Japanese batch? An auto 205 GTi - possibly the stupidest idea ever.......anyway, Mi16 or GTi-6 engine will be by far the easiest engine transplant if you are after more power.
