Opinions on the citreon C2, thinking on getting one soon
Discussion
Speaking from experience, I would say the C2 is a cracking little car to drive, but beside the basic 1.1, the only one I would AVOID is the VTR!! The SensoDrive "flappy-paddle" gearbox is just not good enough for a "warm" hatch - although the box itself is ok when you get used to it, it just never manages to make the car feel that sporty - which unless I am wrong, is what cars like this are meant to be??!!
You'd be far better to look for either a GT (same engine but with a manual box) or a VTS which are not much more to insure as they're only group 8, are noticably more fun, and there are some real bargains around if you look.
In general all C2s handle really well, feel decently screwed together (especially the MY2006 ownwards ones which had the facelifted interior) and look great in the sportier trims. In typical Citroen style, they have excellent seats, lots of kit as standard and performed really well in the NCAPs.
Bit more expensive, but more recently, they have put the excellent 1.6 16v HDi 110bhp diesel in the C2 VTS which feels no slower due to all that torque, will easily return you 60mpg and costs £35 a year to tax! Can't say fairer than that!
Hope that helps

I had a VTS it went back to citroen 23 times in 7 months, service was rubbish, car felt cheap, not that quick never had the performance that is suggested on paper! I wouldnt reccomend them at all!
That has to be a record! VTS HDi is a much better car and when you put it against the petrol one, it walks all over it despite the 15bhp defecit. I'm with you they did feel a bit cheap pre-facelift, but the later ones are a massive leap forward, and the majority of the electronics was changed (although people don't really know it) which ironed out pretty much all of the "bugs" they were known for.I'll just offer a couple of words on this: I didn't have a high spec model, but it spent more time in the workshop than any other car I or my friends have owned. Gearbox started causing bother, Immobiliser played up, had wing mirrors damaged and they cost about £55 to replace.
Wouldn't recommend it, but if you can find a good one then try it and decide for yourself.

we have a 55 plate vts owned it for nearly a year now we have had no problems at all with the car its a cracking little thing to drive allthough you do have to rev it quite hard handles very nicely and is pretty good in an accident as my wife found out after some silly bint decided to drive into the side of her i would reccomend one but i would be a little wairy of a vtr with the flappy paddle gearbox hope this helps andy
Agreed with the above, unless you absolutely have to have a modern car go for a 106 GTi or a Saxo VTS over a C2 any day.
As for a 205, be prepared to work on them, the vast majority need attention nowadays, if you want the easy life go for a 106/Saxo, similar thing but newer so in better condition.
