Hi all,

I am currently using my Saxo VTR (2000) as my daily driver but I am having some rear suspension issues. Apparently my back axle is knackered, the bushes are gone and the torsion bar is seized solid. It makes a horrible knocking noise and looks as if it has no suspension at all (on its arse).
Does anybody know if a standard Xsara or 106 back axle will on to mine if I swopped the hubs and discs around?

Thanks for any help.

AFAIK xsara wont 106 will but if its a base spec 106 then you'll be doing without the ARB disc brakes and it will sit higher than standard.

Thanks for your reply Darren, can the torsion bar not be altered on the 106 axle so when fitted to my Saxo it will sit at standard ride height?

yes you can lower the car using the torsion bar. I'm not sure how though. Although one of the chavvier sites saxP/saxo sports club/106 owners club will probably have a "how to" guide on there.

If you manage to find a rear axle off a rallye/xs/xsi/Gti then they "should" sit at about the right height. Failing that there must be loads of VTR's/VTS's sat in breakers yards? would it be easier to stick one of them on?

Yeah like you say it would be easier to put an axle of one of the sportier models of either a Saxo or 106, it was just that I have access to a standard Xsara and 106 so it would be a lot cheaper to make one of those fit.
I will have to have a quick look on chavs guide to lowering.

Thanks.

VTS/VTR and 106 Gti and Rallye(S2) rear beams are the same (some have different ARBs). Google Saxo sport club, 106 Owners and the 106 Rallye Register, you should be able to get hold of a rear beam from there.

Alternatively if you are handy with a spanner you could source a low mileage rear beam from a poverty spec 106/Saxo and then transfer over your trailing arms, torsion bars and ARB.
