Hi Guys

I have got my company car possibles list down to two, and the 197 (not the Cup) is on it!

I set out below the options I am thinking of - please let me know if they are any good. Also, are there any other essential options I am missing?

I am arranging a test drive of the Clio but how big is it inside? About the same as my 147? Can you carry 4 people OK?

Also, what is the average mpg I can expect?

- Albi Blue;

- Cup Chassis with 17" anthracite alloy wheels and red painted brake callipers £400;

- Renault i.d. leather interior £850 (I haven't found any pictures of the leather interior - is it any good?)

- 4X40W Cabasse Radio with 6CD Dashboard Mounted CD Changer, Fingertip Remote Controls and 6 speakers £350

- Climate control and automatic lights and wipers £150

Many thanks!

Carries 4 poeple relatively comfortably, I'm only ever driving, so don't really know what it's like in the back wink They look like they have planty of space.

There is a picture on the Renaultsport forums of the leather interior. It looks really good. Some of the detailing on it is excellent.

I usually get low to mid 20's around town. I've had it up to 37mpg. I'd expect to get that on a long motorway run.

Have you thought about xenons?

I find the standard speakers are pretty decent quality as it is. I'd pay a little extra and get the xenons instead, But that's just me. I don't really do many long journeys, so the radio is usually enough to keep me happy. Or if you can have both, even better.

other than that, that's a pretty decent spec.

Many thanks for that.

I will do some sums around the xenons, I think they are around £500.

I haven't been this excited about a car for a long time. I just hope I like it on the test drive!

Yeah, £500.

I'm sure you'll like it on the test drive. I didn't get to test it too much on mine, but I could tell it was as good as I'd read. It just felt so solid and stable, hardly any body roll aswell, but I wasn't going particularly fast.

You won't be dissapointed smile

Good effort, i average 28-29mpg generally, which includes all types of road. Although with mine being a 56 plate, it doesn't benefit from the longer 6th gear.

Yeah that looks like a good spec, that sound system is a nice unit and it has the potential to be used with an MP3 player if you fancy a bit of DIY electronics.

Would definitely agree about the xenon's, make a real difference.

Hi Guys

There is a new Lux version of the 197 which was released on Monday, which includes most of the goodies I was after. £2k of extras for £1k extra.

It looks like all I will need to add are the xenons and the Cup pack:

Yeah, I saw that the other day aswell.

Some of the styling is a bit questionable.

You can still spec any of the other options, so if you want the extra bits, then why not.

The rear speaker covers pop off, revealing speaker wires ready for you to add some cheap speakers (adaptors needed, but readily found for peanuts on eBay). Hence the MP3 / 6 speaker upgrade is a total rip off for £125, especially given that the standard unit is MP3 compatible!

4 people easily carried in comfort; the Mk3 Clio really is the next size up to the Mk2. My friend has a 147 and I'd say the Clio is slightly shorter overall, with a similar size cabin.

Thanks for that.

I have just picked up the car - it is in Racing Blue and looks the business. I am looking forward to driving it over the weekend.

To ensure the car is at its best, what are the best tyre pressures to use?

Many thanks!

New Clio Renaultsport 197, 197 Cup and 197 F1 Team R27:
Continental SportContact 3
F/R 215/45 17
Wheel: Renaultsport 7.5x17
Cold pressure F/R: 2.3/2.1

Taken from the Renaultsport website!

Did you not have to order one with all the options you wanted?

They look good in Racing Blue!

Did you get the rear spoiler?

Many thanks!

This one is just for a test drive over the weekend. I will order mine up soon.

I was thinking of Albi Blue, but it looks so good in Racing Blue.

I think the one I have is a base spec 197 but I am very impressed so far - having only driven it about 2 miles to the car park.

Will go out for a drive at lunch time!

Yeah.

Even the base spec 197's have decent kit on them.

Sounds like you've got plenty of time to get to know the car!

Enjoy! biggrin

Wow - I love this car!

It handles so so well and looks great. Good amount of room too.

Great ride quality too. I live in Edinburgh where the roads are appalling and this standard 197 rides so well. I was thinking of the Cup pack, but will the ride be not so good?

I will put in an order as soon as it becomes available on my work scheme (I have been told next month).

So, I am going to go for:

- 197 Lux in Racing Blue

- Maybe the Cup suspension if it isn't a harder ride

- Xenons

- Silver wheels (IMHO the darker alloys don't look so good with Racing Blue - you can order silver Speedlines as an option)

Many thanks for all your help guys. I will post some pics when I get it in January.

Right - off to fill it up with V Power to see how it performs ; )

Glad your enjoying it, great little cars!

The cup chassis will be a harder ride. On the track it would be the way to go, but everyday, the standard car might be just as good.

Cup Chassis is fine for everydday. I am doing 900 miles a week in mine and really enjoying it. Getting circa 31mpg !!

As I continue my research into the best fuels to use, can I ask what you are filling up with? Cheers

When i had my one it lived on a diet of Tesco Super and Optimax. Seemed to like both. It ran like a bag of bolts on boggo unleaded.

Mind you i only managed 2000 miles before it was taken off me and sold frown

Renault recommend using the 99 stuff.

I've always ran mine on Shell V-Power.

Can't really compare it to the any other fuel, as I've never tried any.

How do. Did you manage to get a 197 for a weekend off the now 'only' Renault dealer in Edinburgh? Or was it through your fleet manager?

I used to work in the one that closed. Hey-ho

If i were you i'd take the Recaro's rather than the leather, but thats just me being fussy.

Personally i found the non Cup suspension a bit easier on the Edinburgh roads but i'm a big queer when it comes to ride comfort.

Alibi blue is the colour for the car IMO, it's just a pity that LY isn't a production colour. frown

It's a lovely car the 197. You're a jammy git to have it on your list!

You coming for a beer on thursday? smile
