Hi,

My 205 has developed an intermittent 'knocking' sound and I am struggling to identify the source of the problem. The car is fine at speed and will cruise endlessly on the motorway but pulling away in first gear it sometimes makes this 'dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga' sound, rising in line with the revs, which has started happening more frequently and more noisely. If I change up to second it goes away from then on until I set off from a standing start again. This occurs for no apparant reason, whether setting off slowly, uphill, quickly etc... (uphill and fast would probably be worst though i suspect). The clutch does not slip.

The car is well looked after but has covered 154250miles now. I am considering it may be the clutch. Gears select reasonably well - it's never hard to put it into first either. This leads me to believe it may in fact be a clutch problem but I need clarification, if that's possible over the internet.

Thanks for any help,

Charles

Unless it only happens when operating i would think it unlikely to be the clutch. With it only happening when setting off i would suspect a driveshaft or cv joint .

Well it did have a new CV boot on the r/h side only a few months ago. It has started sort of juddering when you are slowly accelerating, even in 2nd gear also. almost as if it can't cope with the gear. (eg. 3rd gear would bog down at about 22mph and now it feels a bit jerky at 28 or so on the flat. Really not sure what's up with it. The laternator is overcharging as well :-(

Does it happen when you dip the clutch?

If not check out the RH driveshaft intermediate bearing.

Sorry for late response - been busy studying.

No it doesn't do it when you dip the clutch. I'll see if I can check the bearing. Charles
