Bit of a weird one this... my wife drove my clio through a flooded road this morning and for the rest of today I could hear water sloshing about in the car. It sounds like it is under the rear seat and as I pull away I hear it rushing/sloshing back and it rushes forward again when I brake. There is no trace of water in the car or trapped in the doors. I wondered if water might have run into the exhaust and be sitting in the back box but surely it would come out or evaporate after a long drive? I drove for about 2 1/2 hrs today. Any ideas?

This may sound daft but could it be fuel sloshing about in the fuel tank? Could be that you are now aware of any liquid noise in the car, if you know what I mean.

Can't imagine its sitting in the backbox, would have been blown out or evaporated by now surely?

Thanks for your replies. It is strange. It's still there this morning but perhaps not as much. It's not fuel as I was running on vapour this morning! I suspect it will gradually disappear but I would like to know where it is. I'll crawl about underneath it over the w/end and hopefully it will become obvious.

Don't worry its probably in the sills, once the rust gets a hold it will find its own way out. biggrin

If it's anything like a 205, it'll be water in the sills. There will be several rubber grommets which the water should drain through - but they don't as they get blocked up very easily. Locate the grommets and stick a pen/screwdriver through them and drain the water. Better still, do what I did and get a pair of pliers and pull the grommets out. Then the water will drain straight away.

If there was water in your exhaust, you'd be driving around with masses of white smoke billowing out the back....

I agree - water in the sills makes sense. It also explains the sloshing forwards and backwards. I will look for some grommets!

Funny thing is with Clios, you often get white steam billowing out of the exhaust! After one or two high revving moments it's usually all gone though.

Thanks for your help.
