Has anyone here got a C2 VTR?

I've got a quick question about it.

Or if anyone works for Citroen that would be even more helpful smile

Ah Right.. Brilliant.

I've got an 04 plate C2.. It's got the electric folding mirrors so apparently this means it's got CC from the factory?

I slide the little switch to on.. It makes the beep but then whenever I press any buttons on the steering wheel like it says in the handbook nothing happens.

Any ideas or anything you'd recommend checking?

Many thanks.

Sounds odd . . . what should happen is once you have slid the switch to 'on' and heard the beep, pressing the + button should set the speed that you're doing in the memory.

Only things you must make sure is that you're doing over 30mph, and that the SensoDrive gearbox is in 4th or 5th gear, as far as I remember. I guess you're doing this anyway as cruise is fairly pointless at speeds less than that!

I work for a main dealer and drive a Citroen personally, but haven't driven one of the pre-facelift VTRs for a while now, so I maybe wrong. If it still doesn't work i'll try and dig out a bit more info for you, or at least tell you if it sounds like it's broken! Hope that is some help.

Thankyou for the information mate.

I've tried it on the way to and home from work.. 5th Gear and about 75mph and it still does nothing pressing any of the buttons.

I went and spoke to someone at the local Citroen dealer and he said to put it on the diagnostics computer is about an hour.. Is that right or was he just trying to get extra money? I know ours at work take about 20-30 minutes.

He also said something about switches behind the pedals.. They could have been knocked so i'll check them at work.

Thanks again for the help.

No problem mate, sounds like there is some sort of fault there. As far as I can see, it could be any number of possibilities:

1. Brake pedal cutoff switch (as your dealer suggested) - if this is jammed, then it will mean the cruise control is constantly overriden as the car "thinks" you've got your foot on the brake.
2. COM2000 (switch unit controling steering mounted controls, wiper stalks, indicators, etc.) - this can potentially cause certain problems with any of the aforementioned switches, and could include the cruise control on C2s of this age, though it rarely goes wrong.
3. Steering mounted buttons could be faulty, but pretty unlikely!

In terms of the hour to run the diagnostics, I think that's a bit of an overestimation to simply do a diagnosis, but what they're most likely quoting you for is to install any updates to the ECU that have been released. Mazdas probably work in a similar way so you probably know this, but periodically, any electronic "bugs" the cars may suffer from can be cured by what is effectively a firmware update, and that would take about an hour or so to do.

Hope that is of some use, and good luck getting it sorted! Any more questions give me a shout.

I forgot to have a look at that today at work so will see if I can see the switches under there. Do you know if their by the pedals or do I get to them from under the car?

Ah right yeah I get you.. We say half an hour, but that includes the setting up for the diagnosics and logging onto Mazda's Portal which is quite tempermental lol. I heard there was an update for the gearbox, but apparently i've got it done because when I change gears whilst in auto.. It stays in auto which is correct.

I'll see about those switches and hope that fixes them, if not.. I think i'll take it down to Citroen and see if they can run the Diagnostics on it. The brake pedal switch you mentioned, can they be replaced on their own?

Thanks very much for your help so far, it's much appreciated.

That's a good question actually! I know the clutch switch on mine is on the pedal, but obviously you don't have one of those! Not sure about the one on the brake pedal, would have to find out about that one, so neither am I sure whether these can be replaced on their own!

If you can't find the switch under there, my advice to you would be to pop in to your "friendly" local Citroen dealer lol, as the diagnostics machine would throw up a fault straight away, and more to the point, would save you wasting too much time chasing something which no doubt will keep itself firmly hidden while you're trying to find it, as the little beauties do lol!!

Good luck getting it sorted - would be interested to know what is causing it as and when you do find out!
