I seem to have short ratios on mt 1.9 gti. It runs dead on 3000rpm at 60 and 4000rpm at 80. Standard wheels/tyres. I suspect I may have the 1.6 box. How does this compare to yours?

Thanks

sounds about the same as my 1.6 - 80 is about 4K.

It's a fairly common swap as I'm sure you know.

Are you sure it's a 1.9?

Sounds exactly like my old 1.9 to me, even those are low-geared by any modern standards.

The other difference between the 1.6 and 1.9 is that the 1.6 box has an annoyingly low first, the gap between 1st and 2nd creates a significantly greater rev-drop than between the other gears.

hmm, fairly convinced the 1.9 has a noticably longer final drive...

better off asking on forum.205gtidrivers.com....

70 to 3.6k is something like what I get on a 1.9 box. As indicated by the dodgy standard gauges of course.

Yeah, it did but it's still very short. 20mph/1000rpm is what I'd expect for a 1.9.

20mph/1k in 5th is a 1.9 box - no question.

yep, as teknopug, 80mph at 4k in 5th, std 1.9 box.

the 1.6 box is alot shorter.
