Hi all,

I've had this ph2 172ff for a couple of years now. It's always been a little temperamental starting. It would sometimes turn the engine a few times before it started however it always started.

Just recently it's been getting worse. The morning we were supposed to set off on our honeymoon it refused to start at all. A week later when we got back it started first turn of the key.

Last week it again would not start at all. And has stayed that way. It'll turn and turn and turn but not fire.

Sometimes it'll not turn at all and the immobiliser light will flash quickly. this doesn't happen very often though.

It also once would start and then cut out a few seconds later. Did it about 5 times in a row then started and was fine.

Can anyone throw any suggestions as to what to check first??

If anyone has any wiring diagrams for an 02 172 i could really use them.

Thanks!!

I had a MK1 172 that did all of the things you describe. It was starting more and more sporadically until one day it would just turn over, fire up and stop. I called the AA, and was told the immobiliser was being awkward. Try holding the button on the key which arms the immobiliser in whilst turning the key.
Mine started everytime with this method employed!

The button that locks and unlocks the car???? Hmmmmm I'll give it a go.

Just cleaned the Crank position sensor and it "seems" ok.

Thanks for your reply!!

Yeah that button!! I know it sounds a bit of an odd way of doing it but it worked on mine.
Put the key in, turn until the ignition lights come on, squeeze the fob and turn, may do the trick!

I had the same problem with mine and it ended up being the crank shaft sensor.
