Scratching my head on this one, my folks have got a Rover 418 with the old Pug XUD diesel in it.

The car starts fine, then dies after 30-60secs later, as if its run out of fuel. After that it struggles to re-start, once its finally going it runs fine, switch engine off, start again immediately it's fine, leave for 5mins (ie engine still hot) struggles to start again etc.

Any ideas?

Regards
Iain

Slightly wild guess but given how diesels work then I'd say you have a fuel problem. Maybe a blocked filter? i.e. it runs for a bit on what is past the filter but then stops as fuel isn't getting through fast enough???

Sounds like an air leak or the fuel is draining back on the fuel line Hmm Is there a pre heat unit on the back of the engine which pre heats the diesel fuel try bypassing it or you can buy one way valves you can put in the fuel lines Try one on the flow and return side of the pump

Hello there.
Do you have a hand priming pump on that model?
If so change it or the fuel solinoid on the pump(fuel stop)
These are both the usual suspects....

Sounds like when the injector pump went on my Mondeo.
