help! 205 1.9 oil pressure
Discussion
Hey guys,
Just looked at a 205 for sale, all good but when started the oil presure was nearly all the way to the end of the gauge. The owner reckons it settles down to around 3/4's on the gauge when it is warm and the oil flows better and this is the norm on 205's. He said he uses Castrol GTX but not sure what weight.
Is this normal and if not what could it mean assuming the sender is ok? Seems high to me
Many Thanks

Yeah, completely normal. Due to hot oil being less viscous than cold oil and engine tolerances changing as things warm up, hot oil pressure is always less than cold.
Just be aware that the OE gauge and sender are cheap and probably 15-20 years old so the reading is never going to be reliable and/or directly comparable from car to car.

I'll second this and add that putting a 3rd party guage and sender in was one of the most reassuring modifications I did to mine. The OEM guage/sender combination is notoriously inaccurate. The only thing I would say is did you see the pressure drop, at all, the meter will show full scale deflection is there's a short in the loom to the sender...Just be aware that the OE gauge and sender are cheap and probably 15-20 years old so the reading is never going to be reliable and/or directly comparable from car to car.
