Hi,

My girlfriend has a 205 junior auto. I have been offered a 205 GTI 1.9 with a knackered engine for a great price and seeing as her 205 auto is a bit tatty I was thinking of replacing the interior, mouldings, front bumper/skirt and wheels with the gti parts all of which look much better than the standard 205 parts.

My question is whether or not these parts are compatible? Will they all just "bolt on" in place of the standard parts or do the gtis use completely different fittings?

Wheels I imagine should be fine, seats and interior I guess should be ok? (please correct me if im wrong)
Mouldings and bumpers are the parts which im unsure about, does the gti use the same panels/doors/arches and fittings?

Depending on what her insurance company say are there any mechanical parts worth swapping over. (She is only on her first year of driving so anything apart from the basic cosmetic parts may start to affect her insurance)

Any help appreciated
Cheers
Jim

Easier and cheaper to repair the 1.9 engine - these can be picked up for £100.

Wings are different so the GTI 'kit' won't fit.
1.9 Alloys will rub on the rear arches.
Bumpers will swap.
Engine will be TU (I'm assuming it's the 1360?) instead of XU so not many changeable parts there.
Interior will be fine.

Check out www.205gtidrivers.com you may find bits you either need or can sell.

Is this the first time in the history of the world where someone desides to brake a gti in order to tart up a tatty 'junior'?

The second reply is spot on. If the gti is tidy enough to be worth transplanting bits onto another car its easily good enough to fix the engine.

It quite possibly is laugh

She can’t get insured on a gti for a reasonable price, I don’t need a second car and it would be no good as my primary car. So I would only be sorting the engine for re-sale.

The only reason I asked is because at the price I was offered the GTI for it seemed worthwhile nicking the cosmetic bits and "tarting" up the girlfriend's junior then selling the rest of the gti which would work out much cheaper than buying the wheels/interior etc separately.

But this doesn’t appear to be possible so I will let someone else get the use out of the gti and wait for a knackered 1.1 or auto to turn up.

Thanks for the help.

I think you could probably bolt most of that to the 1.1 mate. We've put 1.9 alloys on a base spec model before, and had no rubbage although the rear beam was absoloutely mint! Was close, but just about ok.
Interior will all switch over. Bodykit can be fitted using glue instead of the original palstic clips and pins. Bumpers a straight swap. Can't see why you could't tart it up personally, at a risk of upsetting the purists!

But then they rip BX 16v's and 405 Mi16's apart just for their engines, so can't se why a GTi can't be ripped apart for spares if the engine is already knackered!

My friend used a 1.1 shell and transplanted a 1.9 into it, the rear rubbed like hell on the standard 1.1 beam (1.9 wheels) until he replaced the beam with a GTI beam. Started destroying the paint around the leading edge of the arch.

Bumpers have different fittings i'm sure.

apparently the gti shells have wider rear arches.
