Is it d or td ?Heater motor is fitted under glovebox,if d& no aircon heater resistor is fitted into air pipe near heater motor and is £20.If td with aircon then résistor is mounted on the fan and is £50.Or you bypass the resistor and have flat out or nowt.

The most common cause is the wiring. If its got A/C, it'll have an auto setting on the fan speed, which is a kind of climate control. That always gets a constant feed, unlike a normal fan which is off or on with 3 speeds basically.
The constant feed comes from the ignition switch, which isn't man enough for the job over 100k miles or so and eventually burns out. It's easy to fix....can't remember exactly which colour wire but you just take another 12v feed, plumb it into a relay with the old wiring 'to' as a switch, earth it and run it to the original wiring 'from' going to the heater. Lots of people buy heater fans and spend loads of money on them, only to find it's a wiring break!
Go on French Car Forum to get the exact remedy. Xsara's and various Pug's suffer it too. Check the pollen filter when you've done it, amazing how a dirty one can castrate the amount of air coming through! I just threw mine out on my old Xant.

when i had a Xantia the fan was blowing air the wrong way(have no idea how that happens) there are plenty of them at breakers yards now, i just went and pulled out a new fan unit for £10 and it was fine after that, thier located under the glovebox as someone already mentioned, good luck.
