The exhaust on my 04 Clio 182 was starting to get a few holes in it (mild steel) .. so I looked around for a replacement.

Renault wanted nearly 800 quid for the same mild steel system (from the cat back).. yikes

So - I called a few local exhaust places .. and it's seems that there are not really off the shelf items - after a while they called back as quoted just over £700 for a stainless system yikes

Then I looked at the KTEC exhausts ..

http://www.k-tecracing.com/catalogue.asp?app=Clio%...

One that caught my attention was the KTR ULTRA PERFORMANCE 182 EXHAUST SYSTEM (stainless)- now the reason for this was that there was a quieter 'stealth' option .. as it's my everyday car - I did not really want a massively loud or droning exhaust noise. Fitted price with new mounting 'Renault bracket/rubbers' was £500.

They quote noise figures :

idle 62db, 4500 rpm 75db, 6500 rpm 91db

I measured my std system (in front of my garage and with enclosing fences either side .. so less than ideal) as :

idle 75db, 4500 rpm 88.5db

and for final reference - remeasured in the same place with the new Ktec exhaust :

idle 76.1db, 4500 rpm 96.6db

So - yes, it's a bit louder but is fairly nice to listen too .. and it looks pretty good too - without being too max power.

Anyone else fitted a replacement system on a 182 ?

Very informative post there. Ive been told my center box is on its way out (baffles rattling) and can see signs of corrosion on the back box so im braising myself for the exhaust to start blowing at some point.

I had already done some reading up on the 182 exhaust systems and had also heard the same £800 figure as yourself for a genuine system.

Ive heard good things about both the Ktec systems and Scorpion exhausts. I also use my car as a daily car to commute to work in and do not want a loud boomy exhaust for the dual carriageway journey to work.

Will defo bare the ktec system in mind if/when i need to replace my exhaust, a little concerned about the 10db noise rise at 4.5k but ill prob try and find someone on cliosport willing to take me out in their car fitted with an aftermarket exhaust when choosing. smile

Thanks again for your post smile

Yes the 10 db noise gain is not so good but it does actually sound a bit better and even appears to rev a little easier.

K-tec...i take it thats the Janspeed system?

Others to consider, the miltek, nice lookin and nice note.

Yozzasport sounds good, but V loud.

Custom will allow you the freedom of note...As quiet or as loud as you like.

i have a millteck exhaust on my 182 and was secondhand when i bought it, its not to loud which is the reason why i chose it over others tbh, and much lighter than the original exhaust smile

I got a blueflame cat back second hand for £90. Again its shed loads lighter. Its not too loud, just makes the engine note a bit nicer.

Not a fan of blueflame at all, had 2 (one I bought, one was fitted to a Trophy I purchased). Awful build quality, and zero help if something goes wrong. A very raspy, tinny sound that booms loudly at motorway speed. I'd go for milltek if I were you, nice subtle sound with good build quality.

Me neither. Hav'nt lived with one but those I have seen the pipes looked crap and the sound was'nt brilliant from within the car when I had a passenger ride.

I suppose everyone has different experiences. I flipping love the tailpipes, I think they look really good. I don't have any good photos of it unfortunately but I could get some if people wanted. I suppose you all know what they look like anyway.

It gets a bit boomy at 70-80mph but it really isn't that bad I don't think. I don't have experience of any other exhausts except standard so don't know that much but its a mild improvement that really makes a good difference to the overall characteristics of the engine note.

The Milltek was the other exhaust I liked the look of but the boxes looked smaller and I though would probably be louder.. and then had no db values vs std for comparison.

Now if there was a system to make the 182 sounds like your V6 ... now there would be a stampeed and the woosh of credit cards hastily withdrawn from wallets.. biggrin
