I am viewing one or two at the weekend as its my girls 17th birthday and she wants one of these. My knowledge of Citroens is very limited, so if anyone knows any weaknesses of the VTR and what to look out for, I'd very much appreciate any input. It'll no doubt be 2001 onwards with under 50k miles if thats any use.

Rust in the usual suspect places, door sills etc. Sadly if she's wanting the VTR / VTS model you'll probably come across lots that have led a hard life being thrashed and "Modified" by boy racers.

I'm trying to track down a 1 or 2 owner low mileage car for her, preferably standard, but its proving trickier than first thought to find an unabused/modded one. Little things to look out for will help make an easier transaction, so thanks for the input.

And why aren't there any for sale within 12000 miles from Norwich? Sods law. hehe

Get her the 1.1 and stick a VTR badge on it. She'll never know and you'll save on the insurance!

Exhaust!

I had 2 saxo's and the exhausts went on both between 40 and 60k.

have to say otherwise they were pretty reliable considering the abuse they took. Echo the comments the others have said and would say another thing that lets go is the drive shafts. I had a couple replaced over the years and the warning was a whining on-throttle. Quite a cheap fix mind

I too am looking for a VTR, trouble is I'm pretty tight on the budget so I'm looking for one less than a grand.

It's tricky.

i admit i bought it from a mate who has looked after it very well , just had a drive shaft at 127k !, it runs as smooth as (6k oil changes) original clutch too

they are out there you just have to search or be lucky :-)

Damp under the heater as the matrix is prone to failure , and they are horrible to change ( dashboard out ).

Cheers everyone for the input. I looked around a few and decided against one. I wouldn't fancy her being in an accident in one. So I've opted to get her something larger. I went/she forced me into buying one of the newer shape Civics.

Soft touch.

Bit of a step up in budget here smile . You are right though not the best cars in a crash but good little cars. Which civic did you go for?
