Need some advice

Just had a 36000 mile service on my wifes 05 Clio 182 Cup. 100 miles after the service the car seized at 80mph on the motorway.

At the service the auxilary belt was changed.

The AA report shows the failure was the crank pully came loose, this shredded the aux belt and cam belt.

The garage in question states it did not touch the crank pulley and therefore they are not at fault.

Renualt state that the aux belt can be installed without loosening the crank pulley but the job would take longer.

I would expect any garage to do a quick spanner check on any tourqued nut in the assembly they have checked?

I believe that wether they loosened the crank pully or not is irrelevant. The fact a new belt was installed seems to have caused the problem for which they are liable. At best its a top end rebuild, worse if the pistons cracked the shells.

Any advice on what to do next will be appreciated.

i dought very much they took off the crank pulley as they would then have to insert a locking tool into the block to lock the crank at tdc and remove the bungs at the camshft ends to lock those also, if you remove or loosen the crank pulley basically the engine goes out of time and destroys the valves,i e they are not keyed to the crankshaft, the cambelt runs on a small pulley behind the bottom accesory belt pulley and if that bolt comes loose its all over, it sounds like to me they didnt tension the accesory belt properly, think it should be about 175 hz and it has come off wrapped around the bottom pulley and it has losened it in the process causing the same problem as a snapped cambelt sounds like they are at fault to me if you have just had it changed !!!!
i have seen the same thing happen a fair few times thats why accesory belts get changed early on the sport because if they fail it usually ends up this way !
as for taking off the bottom pulley this only happens under a cam belt change, if they have told you it usually gets taken off they are talking ste full stop
the process for changing the accesory belt is take off the front bumper remove o/s headlamp and remove slam panel,
