I know this may sound daft but does the clio with cup packs handle as well as a clio cup. The reason I ask is that I really like the clio cup in glazier white but I love the dash on the 197 and toys. I would like the best of both worlds great handling and the dash and extras (but handling comes first)so any opinions would be much appreciated.

ETA

Obviously the Cup will have a very slight edge (you can't bend the rules of physics). But the weight difference is naff all.

Its like Groundhog Day in here sometimes biggrin

I've test driven both. I thought the 197cup although it looks the mutts in white with black wheels just didnt feel very speical once on the road.

Test drove the 197 and Meg R26 back to back and I wont be chopping in the 172 for a 197. The 197cup is too basic. Very nice seats etc, but for what you gain in speed around a track just wouldnt justify it.

The seats/wheels and just about everything on the cup are an option. I have a 182 cup and I must say the biggest perk is the snob value of the 'cup' badge (especially when I see other 182's), but that will be lost on 99.9% of people. If I'm being honest, all you get is a slightly poorer spec, stiffer suspension which is great on track but too firm for B-roads really, and the feeling that the car isn't really any faster than a standard 182. 197 cup seems like a similar deal.
The 172 cup is a different story though...

If you want all the electronic goodies then get a 197. As pointed out, the Cup is a more basic 'no frills' version and is a mere 25kg lighter (though I don't know anyone in motorsport who would not take a 25kg reduction if offered to them!!)

How on earth do people clearly so retarded afford to buy cars like that?

Cup = lighter = faster = the classic Lotus model for a sports car. That's why I have a Cup and an S1 Lotus Elise. FF = lardy arse.

Time for me to post again!!...I have owned 3 cliosports over the years...172cup(in silver),a 182ff with cup packs and now a 197cup(also silver)...of the three my favorite by far will always be the 172cup...no abs,no aircon, no traction control..rubbish brakes...perfect!..what more could you want!!

...as for the 197 cup it suited my needs at the time(got a good deal..197cup in silver with aircon just over £13k brand new)..i'm not one for toys(had those in the 182..nice car but i felt they were not needed...never worked like you wanted them to anyway (eg the auto wipers and lights)

...couple of niggles with the 197..takes ages to warm up...a consequence of this is the Kangaroo effect!....also there is an annoying rattle from the back left(can only presume its the exhaust..have checked everything else!)..apart from that its great!!..looks good..goes well(when warm!)...as for the cheap dash..doesn't bother me..at least you can close the doors with the door handles!..and as for electric mirrors..come on be honest!! how often do you actually use them?.....

remember you get a nasty cheaper plastic dash in the 197 cup whereas you will get a much nicer soft touch one on a 197 with the cup pack, handling wise im sure the are very close as 25kg is just a bag of sand, personally id be more interested in having air conditioning and the lovely recaro seats but they are a pricey option.

if i was to buy one it would be a 197 with the cup pack and the recaros. although i realise that is probably the most expensive spec combination you can get for one of those.
