Alpine roadster?

A couple of days ago I saw a red Alpine roadster pull out onto the South Circular (A205) not far from where I live. I was a bit surprised since I've never seen one before and was wondering whether it was factory made. From behind it looked like a V6 turbo, not the later A610 but I could be wrong. It also did not look like a home made circular saw job.

Any further info the members might have would be appreciated

Actually, no. It was more of a fire engine red and it did not have a bodykit - apart from being a roadster it looked absolutely standard.
