Dam things, both rears did the same despite a liberal dosage of WD40 a week ago. 24 hrs ago and just before attempting to undo them. What's the score now do I need to get new calipers or can I get theses drilled out by an engineering shop?

This happened to me (on both sodding sidesfurious)

tried to drill them out but no luck, there are various places on the internet that supply reconned rear calipers, I paid about £70 each for mine.

Had to return the old calipers to get £30 cash back non each, worked out fine in the end.

Much less hassle than fking around with EX-outs. get some nic shiney new calipers toocool

Nip to GSF. Full set recon won't set you back that much.

GSF are £159.33 after taking into account returning the old units. Any advance on that?

(did that service light trick work in the end Gaz?)

That's the trouble - second hand ones are relatively dear due to them all shearing off and causing a shortage. Also with used parts they'll probably suffer the same and shear off in a year or two. At least with refurbished ones there more likely to last more longer, just hope I can get some for less than £160 - a mate had some calipers done on his Capri for something like £35 each!

Are there any other calipers that fit? Having trouble finding a scrapyard with 205 or 309 GTi bits.

No, fairly sure (99%) that 405 calipers are bigger.

Basically most small french cars with rear discs have the same calipers as the 205.

Brought a Reverse Stud remover kit from Machine Mart: CHT526 - 12pce Drill & Screw Extractor Set Item No: 040213526. The smallest extractor fits in the cavity in the stud, turn it anticlock wise and out they come.

My mate came round this morning and we tried his extractor (Page 250 item 6 - CHT123 order no 040213030) And had no luck. I can't see the extractor you're on about - is it in the autum/winter 07-08 catalogue?

TBH, i just chucked Stud Extractor into Machine Mart search and this came up. It was a while ago, the part number came directly off my emailed invoice.

£66 + Vat + have to return old ones. I've paid £55.95 each plus get to keep the old ones (don't really want them but saves £10 odd postage).

Bah!

Well, I was in a hurry at the time...And the old ones weren't much use anyway.

Oh, you also get £20 cashback for your old calis don't you?

Edit: nope, you're right @ £66 + the dreaded. Curses!

£30 surcharge so you'd have to pay some £230 up front and have to post the old ones back that would cost at least £10.
