Clio V6 or Clio 182 Trophy

Can of worms this question...
Are you thinking about Mk1 or Mk2 V6? Will you want to drive it around a track? Are you the kind of person that will modify a car once they have it?
From a track point of view the Trophy is better "out of the box". Your ownership costs will likely be lower with the Trophy as well. The Trophy is also not going to "punish" you if you're driving fast and not smoothly whereas the V will.
As a challenge the V will be a better long term proposition; their handling characteristics are such that to go fast you must be smooth - drive it like a FWD and you'll end up in a hedge. You can make either version of the V handle and go faster but it'll be big money.
How high do you place depreciation on your list of concerns? Values of the Mk1 V6s are stabilising to an extent mainly due to the fact that there were relatively small numbers of them and this number is going down as a number have been written off.
Sniff Petrol you're right to an extent; the engine does sit a little high, the car also has an almost square wheelbase with very little lock meaning it can be tricky to catch once it's started going wrong.

I have a Mk1 vee that I only use for weekends, the dangerous car reputation is a bit misguided I've found. Yes, you will be punished if you step beyond the realms of grip due to the midengine and short wheel base but on the road I would expect this from similar layout cars. That being said in the dry it has bags and bags of grip and will have to be pushed very hard or stupidly to break traction. In the wet overstep the mark and you will write it off very easily due to the poor lock and expensive bodywork.
The biggest pleasure I have found from owning the car for the last 10 months is how smooth my driving has become and the ability to push the car through bends.
I can't comment on the trophy as I have never driven one but would expect running cost to be at least 30-40 cheaper than a vee.

Depends how much you want to stand out imo. Both are pretty rare and both are very well respected.
Handling/power etc aside to most people the Trophy will look like just another red clio. The vee will get you lots of attention. Some good, some bad. You'll always get the stupid sod who'll think you're driving a bodykitted 1.2.
Plus, the running costs are very different. £1000 for a cambelt change in a vee etc. Damage it and you'll be looking a a write-off i.e. £1500 for a side pod. Insurance is insane on them. For me a Trophy is £560 to insure FC. The v6 was £1800.
I'd love to have the choice.. I drive a 172ff. I've always aspired to a vee, but unless I come into some seriously disposible income I'd go for the Trophy next.

Thanks for that DOnkey. I will go over to V6 for a look. I am a member of Clio sport already. I am actually thinking now that I will get rid of the FAbia VRS and get myself a 197 with the cup suspension and use it daily and for fun would make more sense finacially and more fun. Thats not to say the Fabia isnt a fun car as well.
