Hi, I am runing a 1.9 GTI and am wanting to turbo it. I jus have a few questions to ask.
1) What sort of boost can u run without altering the compression ratio?
2) What would you have to do with the fueling system and ignition, aka 5th injector. If i do have to alter it, how?
3) Best place to mount a 2wd cossie intercooler?
4) Where do you get you oil feed for the turbo from, Heard something about the oil pressure sensor?
Be greatful for any help.
Cheers
Tom

Easiest way is to source a complete engine (or even a whole car can be cheap enough) from a 2.0 turbo Xantia or 406. These are light pressure jobs so quite torqy but can be uprated if you still want extra power. What sort of power do you have now and what are you aiming for? Is this purely a road car or a track machine too?
Well i already have a garrett t25 turbo and manifold, intercooler, mocal oil cooler an lines, hosing ect. i just dont have any fueling upgrades except a power boost valve. But i think im right in saying i would need another injector set up, even if its the oldskool way of doing it. Its running standard, round about 120BHP. Its just for the road, am looking for about 160-170BHP for now.
I did no about the straight engine swap but already having these parts, it seamed a shame just leaving them in the corner of my garage.
Cheers

Standard Mi16 engines are 160bhp and rev to 7500rpm, WEREWOLF on here has one with just forged pistons and an induction kit on standard fuel injection it's been dyno'd at 182bhp. Feels plenty fast enough and probably less hassle than going for a one off turbo conversion. Less weight in the nose of the car and less heat to dissipate too. I've a BX GTi 16v (same engine as MI16) for sale if you're interested in going that route.
can always sell on all your bits, plenty of people will still be intrested. Ebay is very popular for 205 bits and some parts can go for ludicrus prices (coin tray @ £40+ iirc) and not forgetting www.205gtidrivers.com
Teknopug on here runs a Turbo technics 205, there are plenty of others using the 406 Turbo unit.
There are people running turbo'd Mi engines also.

Depends what manifold, turbo and engine you have.
You REALLY REALLY want to run it with standalone management for both fuel & ignition. That will maximise the performance potential. Someone like Emerald, Haltech, Omex, KMS etc. That way you can stick with the standard compression and around 10psi of boost should see over 200bhp with good driving characteristics.
You can do it cheaper with either a 5th injector or OE ECU remap but it maybe trickier to source all the parts and it produce less power with more chance of pre-detonation. Also, you won't be able to safely run such a high CR as standard with high boost.
Oil feed can be take from the sensor using a t-piece and return to the sump. Oil cooler you don’t really need but you should run a sump baffle and a better clutch. 2WD Cossie can be fitted either beneath the radiator or above it, behind the grille (rad will need dropping to accommodate). Should really use a GrpN gasket head gsaket as well.
Don't let the Mi16 boys turn your head - they don’t know what they are missing!

Yeah i have thougth about that route. Doesnt the BX lump have different wiring connections? How much u want for it anyway? Where abouts are you? Because i would have to pick it up it guess.

The Mi16 engine wires straight in as far as I'm aware, you just need an adapter plate for the distributor and to shorten the inlet manifold if keeping standard fuel injection and sort out the exhaust manifold as this doesn't clear either. Do a google search on fitting an Mi16 in a 205 and you'll have lots of info.Cheers

I've since posted the BX up on the gti 16v owners club forum for £500 and they're fighting over it! Got a bloke that wants to come up from London next week and buy the car complete, seeing as he wants to keep it running rather than break it I'd like to see it go to a good home.
You will need something like an Emerald to fuel it correctly as said above by Andy.
You will see similar power from an 8v turbo and the Mi16, but the turbo will have shed loads more torque which is the more important figure. I've had numerous engined 205's ranging from Mi16s, GTi6s, 8v turbos, 16v turbo and the turbo ones have always been more fun.
As a road car the turbo ones are also better because you don't have to thrash the engine to get the best from it like you have to with the 16v ones.
