Hi gents. I was driving the wifes car today and noticed something very wrong and wondered if the car needs fixed. When accelerating in gear, the gear stick moves forward and back quite a lot - I'm sure I'm not explaining myself correctly but this is not something my BM or any car in fact that I've owned has ever done.

Should I get someone to look at it, my wife says it's happened since she'd owned it - about 3 years. Can you tell me what the problem may be - engine mountings? The car is due to be sold soon and to be honest I don't think it would sell if someone test drives it.

It'll be the lower engine/gearbox mount. Not too bad a thing to sort out, you might as well poly bush it if it needs changing anyway,
