I know this doesn't seem the appropriate place, but here goes....

The missus' 55 plate Modus oversteers madly in the wet; even at incredibly low speeds, the front swings round and you get a look at the exit you want through the side window. The missus is petrified of the thing in the wet, saying her Ka did nothing of the sort whatever the conditions.

I'm not mechanically minded AT ALL. The car's been tracked, new front tyres put on and all balanced fine. It's still under warranty.

I've got a Chimaera, and I'd rather drive that in wet [which I never thought I'd say....]

As I said, I feel bad posting this here - it seems 'wrong', but I'd just like your opinions....

It sounds like its been bent at some point. Maybe you could get a geometry check?

Does it? I don't know. Is a geometry check the same as wheel alignment/tracking?

Was thinking of whizzing it down to Renault dealer, hopefully when it's wet, to see what they think.

Sorry for bringing the dull world of tall superiminis to your doorstep...hardly stuff to stir the blood, I know.

Have you checked the tyre pressures? Too high or low could have a drastic effect in the wet.

Otherwise, I'd go along with the suggestion above that something is bent.

Yes - I'm a bit funny about tyre pressures, and that was on of the first things I thought of. Have a compressor, too, so to check/adjust them when they're cold.

Having driven a Modus on numerous occassions this is not right at all. I would get it down to your local Renault dealer asap.

Bulged or out of round rear tyres will do this on just about any car. Jack up the back & give em a spin. It will be OBVIOUS if there is something wrong.

Thanks guys. Appreciate your input. Rear tyres seem fine now that I've jacked it up and had a decent look. Buffed, but nowhere near illegal.

Am off to Renault dealer asap
