Hesitant, normally aspirated 405d

Have a rather ancient but so far completely reliable normally aspirated 1900cc 405 estate with 130K on it. Recently it has become very sluggish in pulling away. Not obviously missing or showing any other symptoms just enormously lacking in power, once under way all appears well. Main dealer has had it, found nothing wrong but agrees it is sluggish.

The carpet is not rucked up under the throttle and the throttle cable looks OK. What else ? Is there a road speed sensor that alters the fuelling or am I looking at low fuel pressure or the like.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Have you had the pump timing checked? This can change considerably when you have timing belts fitted ,theoretically it shouldn't but in reality it does. I assume you have checked the air intake hoses for obstructions (small birds etc.)

I hadn’t thought of an obstruction in the air intake thanks for that I will take a look.

we had one of these engines in a BX years ago. Similar issue which was rectified by swapping out the air filter. Hadn't been changed for 100,000miles and the box was quite full of leaves!
