Citreon VTR / VTS / GT
Discussion
Considering building a C2 into a racing car, however the regulations state that I must keep the gearbox that the car left the factory with (internals can be changed).
Am I correct in stating that the VTS's all came with that horrible flappy gearbox that would be completely unsuitable?
Am I also correct in stating that the VTR used the old 8v engine like the saxo did?
Am I therefore also correct that my best bet would be the GT as this was the 16v car with a proper manual gearbox?
Finally, are the 8v and 16v engines the same as those in the previous Saxo / 106 families?
Finally (again) is the suspension in the C2 the same as the saxo / 106?

I've got a Saxo VTR and i seem to think that the C2 does share a bit from the saxo.
The suspension is different i think. the saxo is independent front torsion bar rear, i think the c2 is independent all round.
The engine is a development of the saxo engine, tuned for more torque i think. ive seem some talk of being able to fit the c2 induction manifold onto the saxo lump so the must share the same engine or the head at least.
the GT is the one with the flappy gears i think, or the VTS. One of the 2.

Independant all round would suit me better if I'm honest as I can have coild overs made for all 4 corners.
I'm thinking about using a C2 really because of it's size, the fact it is a current model (easier to get sponsorship), and that I expect to be able to get it seriously light weight.
If it does share the 106 and Saxo 16v engine, then there are proven engines out there north of 200bhp, and gear kits available assuming the box is the same.

The VTR is the one with the flappy paddle gearbox, it has a 110bhp version of the old saxo vts 16v engine.
The GT has the same engine but with a manual gearbox.
The VTS has the same engine but with 125bhp, this one also has a manual gearbox so is probably your best bet.
I believe they have fairly restrictive ecu's, i don't think there are any big power ones at the moment.

Don't worry about the restrictive standard kit. Little more than the block, head casting and gear case will remain factory, and they will all be modded / polished.
To summarise, essentially if there is tuning bits for the 106 or Saxo VTS 16v engine, I CAN use them in the C2 .... or if I were to find a 106 GTi race engine, it would be the same castings as fitted to the C2 and could therefore be used legally in the rules of the series?

We have a brand new C2R2 Rally car with over 180bhp, sequential 'box, hydraulic handbrake et al! See pics below
And yes, that's the price of them!!! That includes the kit and shell from Citroen Sport (France), the donor car and the labour. It's currently set up for Asphalt, but there's a kit for gravel available too!
For more info, or to buy the car or a kit call 02890 383512 and ask for Liam or Raymond.
