I'm having some problems with my '92, 1.6, 205GTi.
A few months ago the car cut out whilst driving along normally. I came to a halt and tried to start it. After a few attempts it fired up again. I thought nothing of it and carried on. No problems since apart from the other day.
Similar scenario, driving along when it cuts out in the same way, except this time, when I try to start it, nothing. I end up gettting towed back home.
When I get it back to my workshop, I start with the basics, no spark, alternator is new, so check the HT lead into the dizzie, nothing, check the coil, resistances seem to be in accordance with Mr. Haines, so now I've run into a problem. I'm not surw where to go after this. I pressume its some sort of engine management issue or a sensor malfunction, but I'm not sure how to test it other than by substituting new parts for old to elliminate the fault.
Does anyone know of any commonly occuring faults that may have caused my lack of sparkage?

cheers in advance.

Could be a whole host of things and usually the best way is to get another runnig 205 and swap parts until you identify the problem. Look at battery, ignition amp, alternator, cracks & breaks in the wiring, yellow multiplug to dizzy etc. Go here if you need more assistance http://forum.205gtidrivers.com

On the bx (same engine )the most common problem was the ignition module mounted along side the coil .I seem to remember it was the same as an escort and easy to get hold of.

Yep my money is on this - mounted on a plate by the passenger strut top if i recall. It failed on mine 200 yards from the MOT station - car would run for 20-30 min or so (ie the length of an MOT!) then start stuttering and cutting out.

PS, the plate acts a heatsink I think, hence you should get some paste to put between the module and the plate to help dissipate the heat.

Had a similar problem with my 106. After much head scratching, investigating and changing of parts it turned out to be a dodgy earth. That'd be the first thing I'd check!
