I rang my local Peugeot dealership this morning to book my 206 1.6 petrol in for its first major service.

I understand that this will involve draining and refilling all fluid, changing filters (oil, fuel, air) and a complete check over of the car itself.

For this, i was quoted £310...

Personally i thought that this was a bit excessive, apparently it should take just a morning to complete the service and the checks.

Has anyone else had any experience of main dealer servicing of their french bred? What were you charged? Any horror stories?

Well i braced myself for the cost being ramped up 'slightly,' but i had to pick myself up off the floor for the £813 i have just been quoted for

1. Full service - Allf fluids changed, plugs replaced and filters replaced
2. Front shocks apparently need to be replaced
3. Rear pads need changing
4. Rear wiper needs replacing
5. Pollen filter on Air Con needs changing

yikes

How you can justify £813 for the above work is beyond me... its about 1/4 the value of the car itself.

The service has been carried out and i will collect this afternoon... and then

1. Geta second opinion and estimate on the apparent faults identified this morning from a friendly (and damn sight cheaper) garage.
2. Go to Hellfrauds to purchase a new rear wiper (then i will fit it and pay myself in beer).

Dealer work... should have known it would be expensive!

Should be included in 1.

We would charge you £376 for all this BUT only IF it was actually required.
(not that i'm touting for work you understand)

Cheers dude.

A friend of mine has offered to put it on a ramp to see just what work is necessary.

Always better off having a second opinion eh?

I managed to get the rear brake pads replaced yesterday for £55 so i am feeling a little better!
