renault clio 1.2 grande (starting problems)

my son has a clio 1.2 grande 1998 with 65000 mls it has been trouble to start replaced starter motor after having it tested and at the weekend replaced the battery if you try to start it and it wont go come back in 5 mins try again and it will start failing that bumpstart it but this time nothing will not even fire do you need to re-set immobiliser? when replacing the battery or can the immobiliser be bypassed i only have limited knowledge of "newer" cars or can anyone give me any ideas i would be gratefull for any info thank you
We had the same problem a while back, went through the same fault finding exercises (blipper, starter motor etc), but transpired that it was a connection that had rotted away to the starter motor (or something similar) - we were told at the time that this was quite a common problem with the Clio (this was a 2001 Y plate)
Hi. i have had the same trouble with my 2000 clio, first i did what you did made no differents, then i found out that a oxygen senser went fauly, had that changed, ok for 6 months, now it gone again, now the computer has gone faulty, Renault want £800 to fit a new one, i hope you hav'nt got the same trouble.
