No idea when my recently acquired 205 jallopy was last serviced so going to do it myself. Cant get the bloody sump plug off though - what tool should I be using? (Looks like 24mm spanner but that feels a little loose, maybe there's a specific tool?)

Try a six sided socket, then maybe a 23mm socket after that?

Make sure you can get another before doing anything drastic.

If its the same as the GTI it needs a (8mm?) square drive, the hole is recessed in the sump plug.

Door handle usually works, take one of the doors apart in your house and use the spindle.

Had to do exactly that with a Mk 1 Renault Clio a few years ago.

Just don't let wifey see and remove all oily prints from the door on completion.
