Xantia 1.9TD Question
Discussion
ive just bought one, i needed something cheap and decent to take to europe for a month and i got a well serviced p red Xantia 1.9TD, it needs the back spheres doing fairly soon but i gather thier pretty cheap and in expensive to do?, my next question is about the air conditioning which i will need knowing what the weather tends to be like in europe, it didnt work so i took it for a re gas.
When i went, they said that the system was holding pressure fine but the air conditioning wasnt engaging when you turn it on,something to do wit the clutch on the compressor?.
later on it did engage and worked fine however it doesnt work every time you press the button, is there any easy wy to fix this problem or am i better off fitting a new compressor from a breakers yard?, and to all the mechanincs out there, will the compressor from a 406 1.9TD or a 2.1 fit my car?, very greatful for any advice.

Sometimes you find that the clearance is too great for the electromagnet to pull the clutch in. try knocking the clutch unit on a bit further, and make sure the 13mm nut in the centre is tight.
There are a couple of different types of compressor, i have one off the wife's 16valve if its the same.

thanks for the help, i will give tightening it up a go first, it cant hurt and saves time fitting a new one, the 406 TD ones look eactly the same, the only reason i ask is because someones offering me one from a car breaking on e bay for £20+ postage, one from a 1.9TD Xantia on e bay is £50 inc postage, i will try tightening it up first though as it does sometimes switch on, just not very often!!, still cant really complain with the amount i paid for the car
the compressor had a small leak at the bottom of it, so i thought better to replace, ive ordered a new compressor which im assured is fully working from a Citroen breakers for £51, i dont think its a very big job to do, it doesnt look like it, im just a bit worried about pulling the old one off, is it better to take it somewhere to drain the a/c system?.

just a wild stab in the dark, are you 100% sure the switch is working properly, only £6 from Citroen
it iluminates properly, an the a/c sometimes engages so i would have thought the problem lies at the compressor end?, also the compressor seemed to have some water dripping from the bottom of it so better safe than sorry i guess.Gassing Station | French Bred | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
