Is my Gearbox dead?
Discussion
longish story short...
Just driven home from work, on the motorway doing bout 80, and i started hearing a strange short knock/grind, only every few seconds. slowed down an put it into 4th and only heard the noise bout twice. Tried putting it back into 5th and it wont go!
Tried again a little further down the road and also back home on the drive an it really doesn't want to know 5th at all. 4th still makes the knock/grind once in a while. There was a very nasty grinding noise in 4th for a second or 2 until i dropped down a gear but haven't heard it again since.
Any ideas if it's the gear box?
it's a Pug 306 DT 97P if it's of any use.

If you have lost a bit of 5th then the remains will go round inside the box and destroy the other gears. As you have nasty grinding noises something is clearly wrong, probably the above, so it is probably a matter of time before the gearbox lunches itself completely.
If it were just gear linkages then selecting the gear may be hard but shouldn't be making nasty grinding noises.
