Hello chaps, my 106 is about to make me commit suicide!

The idle is erratic when the car gets up to temp, not every time, but on most drives. When it does decide to do it, it normally will keep revving itself from 1800rpm to 2000rpm. However i have had it doing 2800rpm to 3000rpm which is really bloody annoying! It will also on the occasion drop and sit at 600rmp!

Anyway, im thinking idle control sensor, but i thought i would post it up here incase you guys thought differently.

I would agree it sounds like the idle speed control valve is sticking. I dont know where it is on this engine though, around the throttle body area most likely.
Take it off and give it a little clean with some petrol or spirits. And while your there check all the connections and any pipes or gaskets are not leaking.

ICV is in the throttle body (I'm going on my 106gti here) try also resetting the ECU by taking the power off for a few mins.

Sounds more like the coolant temperature sensor to me. It'll either have one, but more likely two, and be situated on the side of the thermostat housing area. Probably a 2 pin blue connection on it, the other will be green, brown or yellow. They'll probably show up on a diagnostic for around £40, but IIRC the sensors themselves total about £35 all in from a dealer.

Sounds too random to be the ECU temp sender. Also it would be heavy on fuel.

I have a 1.1 Zest 2.. 2000 model (So pretty much the same). There is a sensor.. Coolant temp sensor i think it is.. just above the Gearbox towards the front or the engine. Remove that, clean it out and see if that sorts the problem out. I replaced this as i had a similar problem when i replaced it with one of those daft +20bhp remap chip things lol.. Bad idea rolleyes

Hopefully this helps you out mate.
