Hi
I in the need to replace my current Nissan Primera estate, it's the 2.2 Turbo diesel engine. It's a company car.
My budget for the next cat is probably £6K and the option I need is cruise control, CD changer or MP3 connection and I need a comftarble munch miler car, I do a minimum of 100 miles a day.
The C4 is appealing because it's smaller than the C5 so should be more economical to run, but it seemed that there is a lack of 2 ltr diesel, and looks great.
The C5 is a munch miler but it is not as funky, but you can have biggish diesel engine.
What are your thoughts?

As a C5 driver, I can recommend them. I think the C4 is still more pricy than the C5, because some see it as more 'desireable'? Personally, the main gripe I had with the C4 when I was looking for my current car, was the steering wheel arrangement with the fixed centre boss. Just didn't like it at all. When you drive the C5, it doesn't feel too big despite it's size and I never have many problems with parking etc.
For £6k you should be able to get a decent '53 or '04 - aim for the SX or Exclusive trim. I got the 2.2 HDi SX on an '02 plate for just under £5k with 40k miles.
2.2 HDi SX has climate, cruise, CD (multichanger was an option), front/rear armrests etc.
Exclusive has a multichanger as standard, plus a few other gimmicks like refrigerated glovebox.
I narrowed my choice to the C5 2.2 HDi SX or 2.0 HDi Exclusive, because the 2.0 HDi SX doesn't have cruise control.
The 2.2 HDi manual returns about 42-44 mpg, while the 2.0 HDi used to give me about 50-52 mpg (my previous C5 was a 2.0 HDi SX). But that's with my driving!

Thank you for all that.
I had a look at the Citroen website and there is 2 version of the 2.2HDI, one of which produces 173bhp. Is that the one you have?
What about running cost and servicing? My Dad use to have CX and he had to replace the spheres, how often does it need to be done?

The 2.2 HDi version I have is 136bhp - I'm not aware of a 2.2 with 173bhp, is that the mk II? Mine is a mk I and all these 2.2's are 136bhp.
Running costs are not too bad, I got a one year warranty with mine when I first got it but the only thing that broke was a control unit on the climate control fan and that cost about £75 to replace at the dealer.
Apart from that it's just been the usual wear and tear - brakes, tyres etc.

The suspension spheres have been improved alot and the ones on the C5 are third generation, originally they wouldn't need any maintenance for the first 5 years, but last time I called the dealer since my car is approaching 5 years now, they said that they have been so reliable they only do a visual check each year to make sure there's no leaks since they are sealed units.
Spheres only cost about £40 anyway! Have a look at www.aepdirect.com/defaultHome.aspx for an idea of part costs.
