I rather fancy the Peugeot 1007, you know the one with the sliding doors, and everyone keeps telling me I am stupid. I know its too heavy at 1215kg and I don't much care for the doors but that seems to be its only failing. Autocar's road test (see their website) says it's a pretty sharp handler, if not as polised as older Peugeot efforts. I'm imagining it's about as good as a basic new Clio which is also big and heavy.

A lot of the weight is actually justified when you sit in it, it feels very good quality on the inside, not the usual cheap tacky supermini fare at all, and has very high equipment level including 2 glass sunroofs which must weigh a bit. Looks good on the outside too, as opposed to the 107 which looks like the ultra cheapo city car it is.

Other pluses:
I'm tall yet I actually fit in it.
Driving position feels high, like an MPV or SUV (personally I really like that plus it's more comfortable)
It's spacious.
Boot seems pretty good.
It's different.
Along a B road you can probably amuse yourself keeping up with quicker stuff
I like Peugeots
It's the opposite of a Mercedes

Has anyone driven one? Does anyone know if the reliability is better than the 307 which has given Peugeot a bad repuation?

What about engines? 1.4 8v 75bhp sounds like it's going to be rubbish. Probably dates back to the 1.4 in the 205 as well! 1.4 16v - according to the specs both power and torque peak at a lower rpm than the 8v - impressive. 1.6 16v only comes with 2-tronic (??) transmission so I'm ruling that one out.
What are the 1.4 / 1.6 HDis like?
I heard it will be getting the PSA-BMW engines from the new mini. What will these be and will they be much better than the existing ones? Will the diesels stay the same?

Thankyou for anything I can learn!

I guess they're as rare and unusual as I thought, clearly nobody knows anything about them!

I don't know for sure if it will recieve the BMW engines in the future. One thing I would say is watch out for the depreciation; no dealer will want to buy it back from you as they are difficult to shift.

i saw this thread yesterday and was shocked at the weight of the car, then i happened to see one this morning.

Well to be fair they're very highly specced, as I mentioned above the one I saw had twin sunroofs, they have 6 speaker stereo, solid Volkswagen-esque feeling interior, airbags everywhere, ESP/ABS whereas a 106 has no sunroof, 2 speaker stereo, a less solid interior, maybe one airbag, no ABS.. and so on. 1150kg would have been nicer though.

In fact here's the basic spec:

Air con
front fogs
elec windows
curtain airbags
side airbags
front airbags
ESP/traction control
ABS/EBD/Brake Assist
electric/heated mirrors
6 speaker cd player with remote
Leather steering wheel & gearstick
'bin'?
child mirror
exterior temp guage
remote central locking
power steering
adjustable steering wheel
folding passenger seat (?)
rear seats tilt/fold/slide

so again I think the weight is somewhat understandable. It's a shame the engines aren't improved to counter for it though.

A new fabia 1.4 Ambiente (spec appears not quite as good as 1007 but it does have 5 doors) is 1155kg. So the 1007 is still a little heavy.

But a Fabia vRS is a hefty 1315kg!

There is a reason the 1007 isn't selling.

It's main benefit is easy access for the tall or the elderly. A decent spec 207 will be infinitley more enjoyable and hold on to it's value very well in relation.

I don't know whether this puts any sort of spin on it but my grandad had one when he dropped his car (206) off for a service, he loved it. He said the best part was the sliding doors.
