Not talking about airfilters and exhausts - I mean serious engine work, brakes, suspension etc. I've had a search of all the obvious sites and can't come up with anything. Much appreciated if anyone can help.

Based at the gates of Le Mans they do lovely 300bhp + engines plus everything else.

They do throttle bodies lick amongst other things

& www.k-tecracing.com do stuff too

Have you been on the V6 owners club forum? I'm sure they could point you in the right direction

I had an exhaust system fitted to my 172 at K-tec. No problems to report. They are not the cheapest of places I believe though.

Never used Yozzasport, but they have a good rep

Try asking the same question on www.v6clio.net

Yozzasport (as others have mentioned) do some off the shelf parts including an ITB manifold. Angelworks do excellent work with heads, GDI have worked with the MkII to produce a 300bhp version.

You may want to see the work that has been done or is being done for the forum users MikeT (supercharged with Sadev sequential soon to move to twin turbos), TRW1 (Mk1 with Mk2 plenum, NOS, MK2 subframe), v6Max (Trophy induction, caged).

There is an increasing pool of experience out there in tuning these cars...

Again, thanks - now in conversation with some of those mentioned. Credit cards being dusted down as we speak!

What sort of weight can they be stripped to?

Thanks.

Depends how far you are prepared to go...

Quoted weights are, if I remember correctly, 1250kg or so. I stripped mine out - ditching all interior trim, losing the heater, AC, ICE etc etc and changing the seats and have got a little over 125kg out of the car.

These are heavy cars but alot of the weight is in areas that are easy to deal with if you can compromise. As an example; each seat is approaching 20kg where as a relatively cheap race seat will be 6kg. There is a plate underneath the drivers seat that is purely there to support the CD changer and yet it weighs a couple of kilos. Airbags are another source of weight which can be removed along with seatbelts if you go down the harnesses route.

Losing the heater and AC will save considerable weight because of a) all the pipework under the car b) the heater matrix and c) the AC condenser.

Sound deadening also adds up - although it's a pain to remove in some areas. All those little bits of plastic also weigh a fair amount.

I'm about to replace all the glass except for the windscreen with Perspex and I'm expecting a fairly decent weight saving from that as well (the glass is heavy in it's own right but so is the extra weight of the window lifter motors, switching and wiring).

If you are considering doing it I will say that despite the compromise in terms of comfort it has been absolutely worth it. Do not under estimate the improvement to acceleration and braking that occur due to the reduced weight. Handling is also improved all because you are moving less mass around - this is also a good reason to think about putting in decent seats - mine are bolted to the floor using side mounts (carbon fibre) net result is the 2nd heaviest thing in the car (e.g. me) is now 10" closer to the ground.

I also saved weight by replacing the backbox with a QS one, OEM fit coilovers replaced with KWs.

You can get some weight off the engine as well; replace PS pump with electric version (losing pipes in the process and reducing parasitic losses), removing pointless shiny plastic cover, removing AC pump, replacing exhaust manifolds with lighter/decatted versions (will also reduce temps).

Weight on the outside of the car is harder to reduce without going down the route of specialist panels. The effort of removing the front fog lights is probably not worth it (they're big but don't weigh much). There are 2 horns in the front of the car so you can lose one of those. Replacing the wing mirrors is worth it - the OEM items with both motor and heating elements are worth replacing with lighter versions).

Bear in mind that it's inherently easier to save weight from the front of the car and whatever you do you will need to have the car setup afterwards - your corner weights will be all over the place.
