Hi

Does anybody know how much braking force the rear brakes on my Clio 172 cup should be giving ?

It just scraped through on its (1st) MOT yesterday. The mechanic was surprised and suggested that a part may be missing from the braking valve thats sometimes removed when cars are lowered. Mine is standard so I'm a little confused.

Any help would be appreciated, its going back in for a service next week.

Cheers

On my travels in looking for a Cup i've been told this is a common issue with Cups come MOT Time

Its nothing to worry about though, there is a special note for MOT Testers regarding this very issue. (Something like special note 30 but cant remember exact title). As part of the weight saving exercise Renault appear to have sacrificed the brake balance spring. No Cup has one and will as such experience low braking force on the rear at the MOT station.

Its not down to weight saving IIRC. Its because the Cup does'nt have ABS

In answer to Coxy's first question - all! The front brakes do all the work really

Cheers guys,

Never had a problem on the road with the brakes so was surprised by the MOT result.

Sorry I forgot to add the obligatory [sarcasm mode on] before the weight saving comment hehe

Although if you think about it they deleted ABS as a weight saving measure, therefore as they spring was not needed it was deleted too hence another miniscule 5 gram saving or whatever...lol

Just to add..

Was directed here by a helpful member of cliosport:

www.vosa.gov.uk/vosacorp/repository/MoT%20Issue%2031%20-%20Apr%202006.pdf

Scroll down to page 8, could help if anyone else has a problem.

LOL I did think of that angle too!

I reckon they deleted ABS to save cost more than weight, but who knows (or cares for that matter)
