106 loosing power in the cold, any ideas?

The little 106 (1.1 shhh, don't tell anyone) seems to have a south of France attitude to the cold weather, it does not like it much. Occasionally the engine looses power and will only run at tick over or very slight throttle, any more throttle and it just dies. Does this for about 20 - 30 seconds and then snap, seems to be fine again. Colder weather seems to make it worse.

Reminds me of the old days when the jets on the carb would freeze up in the cold and all you had was the idle jet.

Any ideas? Or shall I take to man in an oily suit?

My 309 ran on an off like this for a while. Ran with a little throttle but any more and it would kangeroo down the road. It was sporadic for a couple of weeks and then died at the side of the road, after apparently getting better. Twas the ignition amplifer...although I'm not sure your system is anything like my antiquated one!!

Hmm, I shall have a good look at the electronics, not that I expect to find anything as it is very interminent. It's a 95, not exactly cutting edge technology.

Tricky one....
Haynes manual says:

Engine Hesitates on acceleration.
o- Worn or incorrectly gapped spark plugs.
o- Vacuum leak at throttle body/inlet manifold/hoses.
o- Blocked injector/fuel system fault.

Engine dificult to start from cold.
o- Battery discharged. Check the alternator should be putting aprox 14/15v into the battery when engine running
o- Battery terminals loose/corroded
o- Worn/faulty/poorly gapped spark plugs.
o- Choke mechanism incorrectly adjusted/worn/sticking.
o- Fuel injection fault. (Fuel pump under back seats?)
o- Other ignition system fault. (Ht leads/coil pack/idle stepper motor?)
o- Low cylinder compression.

Also check there are no mouse nests in the air filter
