Whilst trying to find out why the windscreen washers have packed up on my 405, I discovered a pink relay tucked away behind the washer bottle. One of the terminals had corroded right through so I thought this might be the problem. Thirty quid and a new relay later the washers are still dead and everything else electrical that wasn't working before still isn't working now. The nice parts man at the dealers hasn't even got a pink relay listed so anyone know what a Cartier 600 is for?

Not for the headlamp washers is it? as they only work when the headlights are switched on.

As for the washers itself, it is likely to be another relay in the fusebox or a bad earth on the loom.

Cheers Mikey, forgot about them. If I adjust them right they might hit the windscreen. Have you any idea where the pump relay is? Theres bloody relays hidden everwhere I look, boxes of 'em all over place. The diagrams in the Haynes manual are hopeless for people who are used to colour coding in wiring diagrams.

it's more likely to be a duff pump - have you tried putting power to it?

If its got more than normal number of terminals on it then its for the "dim dip" headlight function.

It turned out to be a break in one of the cables as they emerge from the loom. You see, I recently had some work done on the brakes by a firm who shall remain nameless, this involved removing the washer bottle from the scuttle to get the servo out, when I asked them why the washers no longer worked after picking the car up, they had no idearolleyes
Mr Jenks, you may well be right about the dim dip relay, can't honestly remember if I've ever checked to see if they work. Strangely, the bag containing the new relay had "wiper delay" printed on it, although that particular function hadn't packed up.
