EVO needs your Clio V6!
Discussion
Hi,
We're looking for a mk1 Clio V6 to feature in the next issue of evo. There would be some road driving involved but no performance testing or track work. We would insure the car. We'll also pay for fuel, food and accommodation, and you'd get a nice set of prints of the car after the feature's been published. The story is happening next Monday and Tuesday (Dec 11 and 12) on Exmoor.
If you've ever fancied seeing your pride and joy immortalised in print, please drop me a line at petert@evo.co.uk
Many thanks,
Peter T

I just read the feature last night and it got me thinking i need a new car, something that stands out from the crowd, makes a georgeous soundtrack and is fairly rapid. I think clio v6 is abit out of my range, ive probably only got 6k to spend realistically, but i can always wait!
What are the v6's really like to live with? Evo keeps banging on about how much theyre determined to punish the driver. Is this a fun and constant challenge or does this get tiresome and force you to take a different car for most journeys? Also the seat position is mentioned as being quite high (akin to a bus iirc) is this un-natural? Is there a solution?

The handling/driver skill has been discussed so much I am not going to add to it. However, as for the driving position I do not find it too high at all (it is based on a standard Clio so what would you expect?). I must also add that during the Evo test, on the 2nd day at least, we had checked out of the hotel and in my clio was a small suitcase, 2 soft bags and a glass trophy and associated protective wrappers, a pair of DM's several jackets (OK I was probly wearing all of them at the time) and other stuff as I had just spent the weekend in Paris and drove straight to Exmoor. For that reason, the seats were well forward and the driver seat seemed to be stuck in its highest position (admittedly where I like it) due to a couple of forgotten bottles of wine bought in France being wedged underneath. I should also point out that none of the Evo Journo's are particularly small, Henry Catchpole being extremely tall yet he drove me to Bridgwater on Tuesday with no complaint.
If you are thinking of buying a Vee then dont let the seating position put you off because I am sure you will not find it an issue.

I'd agree with that. I ran my MK1 in Evo's Longtermers section a while back now and have since had a MK11 and I think that while the seat is a little high the feeling gets exaggerated because people look at the car and expect to drop down into a very low 'sports car seat' rather than land on something of more normal height. Handling wise the MK1 could be a 'challenge' but only if you hopped in and took liberties rather than trying to learn it. No different to many other cars in that regard. If you are thinking of buying a Vee then dont let the seating position put you off because I am sure you will not find it an issue.

well i read the review and thought, i like both the impreza (though id have to have a 3dr type r or p1) and the v6, and i could just about stretch to affording one although it would probably put my house buying plans back another year. Like the article suggested, the subaru would be likely to lose me my license where as, aslong as i could tame myself, the v6 might be a recipe to slowing me down ind improving my driving/control at the same time. Thanks for advice, i will do some more searching.
Hi , just to say what a great report that was by Evo on the early v6 clio , I have had a MK2 v6 for 17 months and have had many fast cars over the last 15 years and can honestly say that i find the v6 a fantastic car and for the money takes alot of beating . I`m really in two minds as to whether i should sell it now as have just bought a new toy .Think i will reluctantly though, so will shortly place advert on piston heads . Its a 2005 Black 10,000 miles if anyone is interested let me know .
