I would not bother with any induction filtering. A K&N kit was on my 1.9 when I bought it and I promptly took it off. Going back to standard gave far greater fuel economy with no apparent loss to performance.
If you have a look at the standard layout and aftermarket layout as yourself which one has direct access to cold air and which one sits in the hot engine bay?

I'd leave all the induction and exhaust as standard unless you have other things planned.

Why does everyone always harp on about putting in MI16s? Everyone knows they are faster, but everyone also knows that MI16 205s arent much more expensive than an un modified 1.9 thus everyone makes a choice between the 2 when they buy. And if somebody is looking to just improve breathing it's not likely he wants a new engine and expensive conversion (compared to the price of buying a 205 with an MI16 already in).
Personally I would leave the breathing as it is unless you want a little more noise.
And behind the headlight isn't the best position as It is out of the ambient air flow coming through the grill. As close to the standard intake as possible is the best.

There are 2 sides to this, there may be cooler air getting in through the front grill but why put a bloody great filter box above the exhaust at the back of the engine! this in effect acts as an interwarmer as i like to put it
Unfortunatly with the design of the 205 engine bay getting cool air onto a filter behind the headlight is difficult. Also a lot of the induction kits i have seen the filter is a little small, but fitting a bigger one is again difficult. This is why a lot of people do not see great gains from fitting them.
The other option would be to leave the AFM where it is, and see if you can get an enclosed filter down the front somewhere with a 'U' pipe to connect to it at the back, with the filter down there it should be easy to get cold air from just under the lower bumper. This would be easier if the battery was elsewhere or smaller.
If money allows, junk the lot and fit carbs or throttle bodies

I'm not a 205 man but I'd heard good things about spoox.
I mentioned the other crowd because they don't look like a 'neons and silly wings' operation, but willing to be told different.
there is no real cheap way of getting more performance from your 8v engine. the best bhp per £ is the tried and tested MI16 conversion though this does radically change the characteristics of driving the pug.

When I started looking at 205's I looked at a M16 that was a DOG, then I came across my Miami Blue 1.9 which is in lovely condition and I couldn't stop my hand reaching for my wallet!! I have since have considered a M16 again and whether I have made the right choice but am pretty sure I have. My car has been described by some "as like new" -so should be kept as original as possible!! But I am tempted by more power!!
The Puma site looks great and he certainly knows his stuff- if he would take the car and do everything I would be tempted today.
Has anyone had any major engine work on a 205 by someone they would recommend?

How come? Heard they work good on pugs?
All they do is weaken your mixture, all pugs have that bit of a stutter but with a little tuning it can be helped, no need for a silly valve.
I took my 309 into a dealer to have it checked and tuned and i asked the tuner about it and he told me 'they all do that' so thats how it stayed.
