Hi, I have got my 1.9 now. Pretty good fun.

But driving to college the other day and the oil pressure dropped to 0 and the the engine told me to stop. So i drove home to find out after taking the sump of that the oil pump sprock and chain had both snapped.

Do yuo no if a 1.6 gti chain will be the same size, even with the longer stroke.

Has anyone else had this happen to them before because i havent and the brother 205 gti fanatics that i got the engine of havent either.

Cheers

Tom

These don't fail very often. I'd say you have been very unlucky indeed.

I'm fairly sure all the petrol XU engines use the same pump and drive.

I'd be looking to find what caused the break TBH I've never heard of this happening. Pretty sure 1.6 and 1.9 itema are the same, quick way to check is see if they are listed seperately in a parts catalogue.

Also if you drove home with zero oil pressure then the engine will have taken quite a battering, surprised it didn't seize TBH. You may find that with parts replaced that it will still need parts replaced due to running with zero oil pressure.

On the plus side complete 2nd hand engines are very cheap...

I had to laugh at that bit!!!
I'm sure all the pug/citroen engines of the Xu variety (as said) are the same, you sure something hasn't jammed the pump thus snapping the chain, sound very odd to me!

Cheers for the replys.

The 1.6 chain is 48 tooth and the 1.9 chain is 50 tooth.

Its all fixed now and seems to be running fine. I was very suprised when it started and had no nocks or anything. Hopefully the fine over the next couple of days.

I think the pump jammed as i cant turn it. i have taken it apart and the 2 couges wont spin to.

Im in the process of rebuilding an engine so if it can hold out for a couple of months it would be great.
