picked up a Xantia Activa today, dark metallic blue, good history, eletric leather etc, lovely car to drive, much better than the 1.9TD it replaced, and managed to pull away from my brothers Mk4 Golf GTI

it does have a few niggles though but nothing major, a bush near the suspension sphere on the drivers side needs replacing as it gives a bit of vibe, also the tracking needs doing.
the speedo doesnt seem to work although the odometer does fine, and with the cars heating system i can turn the heating/air conditioning on fine and i can hear the fan blowing air but nothing will come out of the vents, could the switch you flick for air direction be stuck perhaps? and i guess it will be a dashboard off job?.
also will any bits needed for it be the same as the 1.9TD as i have that going spare.
coombe i did register on the Activa forum but it didnt seem to want to let me start a new thread.
thanks for the help in advance

Is it the engine mount that has gone, if so ,that is common, cost about £25, just need small hands to swap it, and a jack to take the weight of the engine!
My speedo gave up the ghost, there is a drive on top of the gear box (you need to get under the car to get to it, but it's only an Allen bolt holding it in, do what I did, the Xantia has a universal one, it will accept either a cable drive, or in the case of the Activa, an electrical pulse, Go to a breakers and get one from a 406, it is only the pulse type, and then go to Citroen and get a new gear for it (it just slots in, (you got the MU type box) I think it's got 21 teeth, the pug one only has 18 and puts it about 20% out!
Oh, and if the Speedo isn't working nor is the Hydractive part of the Suspension, the fun hasn't even started yet!!!!
I think the heater blower is the same across the range, you can get to it with out taking the dash out, but I'd check the pollen filter first (if it's got one) I haven't got air con so have no idea where it is!

As for posting on the Activa net site, I haven't a clue, have you activated you account from the email you got sent (I think it does that!)

hi coombe, ordered a speedo cable from German Sweedish&French earlier for £12.50 and will order a pollen filter in the morning as this is what a friend thought the most likely cause of the heater not getting any air through would be, then theres the bush and engine mount to do and its pretty much sorted then

They don't have cables!!!
It's A combined drive, But the Activa only uses the electronic side of it !
I got to pop out for half hour, will explain later!

You could check the pollen filter by just running it with out it (temporarily)!
The speedo sender is got at from under the vehicle, I did it on ramps, but is you can get it up on a lift you shouldn't loose no gear box oil (when its on the ramps it comes out, but if your quick you won't loose much!) And when it's up there go mad with a can of spray grease (not WD40!) and check the rear hight corrector, there is a little spring on there that is know for popping off, check it is still in place(goes round the white plastic clip!)
If you can get Pug's version it seems better for the job, appart from the drive wheel (which is green in the pug) is white in the Xantia, from a dealer the drive housing/sender is about£60, the gear is about £5, I got the drive for £10 from a breakers yard!
If you go mad with the steering wheel, I.e. from left to right, like dodging Chavs at McDonald's does it roll AT ALL, if the sender is up the duff it will, if it's good there will be no roll at all!
Where do you live?

This is the engine mount (Number 13, The part circle splits, use the wheel brace to leaver the engine away from the suspension strut and you should see the splits, and don't forget to support the engine with a trolley jack!

thanks for displaying the engine mount, i think i need part 14/15 as well, so the speedo cable i bought today is a complete waste of time then?, the speedo works sometimes then just cuts out, the warning light for the tempt temoraraly camr on today even though the temp was well below 80 on the clocks and wasnt overheating at all, this was only for a second that it came on though, im beginning to suspect a dodgy connection at the clock now instead, going to do the pollen filter tomorrow though but a bit stuck on the speedo issue, the engine mount/bush and tracking i will get done by a garage though just to be on the safe side, does anyone know a good Citroen independant in Surrey at all?

I'm sure if it's the connector behind the speedo then the susspension will work fine, if it rolls then it is the other end.
I wouldn't say the cable you bought is totaly useless, I'm sure you could make something out of it!
My speedo tended to do that too, work sometimes, and not the other, but when I took it out (really is a 2 minute job!) the shaft had bust, Water can get in the citroen one.

Does the temp light come on when you first turn the car on then go out?

the temp light hasnt come on when the cars first on as far as i can remember, just came on yesterday then went out although the car wasnt running hot at all, i even left it idling and the fan cut in and turned off fine so am thinking it must have been a short at the clock end as the cars not overheating and considering the speedo problem too, how do i go about getting the speedo out?, is it worth getting a Haynes manual even though they dont cover the Activa?, i also changed the pollen filter today, but still no air coming through the vents, im thinking maybe the pipe that feeds the air in has popped off?

It is worth getting a Haynes Manual, but as you said, it wont cover the engine or the extra bits on the suspension!
To get the speedo out, First disconnect the Battery, wait 20 mins for the Air bag to deactivate (but still go bloody careful with it!) There are two screws on the back on the wheel that hold the air bag on, remove these and pull clear and disconnect the bag.
disconnect the radio controls.
then slacken of the nut that hold the wheel on (19mm i believe)but don't take it right of as the wheel will need a firm hit from behind as it is more than likely on there very well, and if you remove the nut you will end up modifying you face with the wheel!
Then you can remove the trim under the speedo, disconnect the switches, then simply unscrew the speedo
or something very close to that!
Got me on the air con now though!

Oh, you have to remove the steering column surround after removing the wheel too!
