106 rust bubbles - time to get a new car?
Discussion
Are 106s normally prone to corrosion? Ive notice alot of small rust bubbles under the bonnet in mine (1998 S reg) which has surprised me because its only done 58,000 miles and my old 205 only started to rust at 160,000. They are on the slam panel and around the strut tops, not really places you want to see rust!
Its made me wonder wether now is a good time to change cars anyway because I only paid £1500 for the 106 (its a 1.5 D) at 45k 5 months ago and I rekon I could sell it on for about the same now.
I'd quite like to replace it with a 306 XSi or a 309 GTi. What would you go for? Insurance is an issue as i'm only 20, as are running costs because I'm soon to have a mortgage although these cars seem pretty similar on both counts. The 309 benefits from higher gearing therefore better motorway cruising but corrosion would be an issue. The 306 is more common and newer but a less focused drivers car.
