Ive been posting on pistonheads for a while now and was always a bit miffed there was no peugeot forum, allthough the presence of a forum seemingly dedicated to continental baking had left me somewhat bemused. Anyway, ive now found out what the French Bread forums actually about and i'm quite relieved as recently I'd even resorted to posting on some peugeot sites that seemed to be dedicated to the Lexus lights and harness pads brigade.

So hi fellow frenchies. I currently drive a 106 diesel and I'm having a toss up between getting a 309 GTi or a Mortgage at the mo.

Have got a few 205s and a 309 GTi. 309 is a nice daily car and you can get them cheaply, only problem is that they are getting hard to find now. Try http://309-gti.co.uk/Forum/index.php you may find on on there.

They are more stable than a 205 and better for cruising. The 205 is not a relaxing car to drive but is excellent fun.

309GTI is a very rewarding drive, they also rot.

I know, I took the headlight out to replace the mounts and found rot behind, not yet too serious though.

Having said that, they rot worse than a 205 but in the scheme of things it really isn't bad at all and not structural rot (yet).

My sentiment regarding lack of a Renault forum then figured they are all over the net anyway! ditto Peugeot I'm sure. I'll stay tuned into this now I found it too. Chuckled at your comment about your GSi 3000 in your profile, I was driving my dad's Cooper S around stubble fields age 8-9 but sadly never became a Colin McRae! Was allowed to get it well up the revs in 3rd, (must have been like 60-70mph!) but could barely stop it without stalling due to the competition clutch. Happy days, but God knows what would have happened if I'd wrapped it up!

Yeah field cars rock. Maybe we should ask Ted for a field car forum.

Ive just realised the mortgage isn't as much as I thought it would be so hopefully I can have the 309 aswell. Better start looking for a minter. Ive read about the rust issues (not surprising considering its talbot-bloodline) but its not as bad as most 16-20 year old cars (thinking escorts, astras etc).
