Well, I've had enough of it now havign been a royal pain since fitting it to the 172,

The problems were pretty random, but among them:

* Often didn't appear as a source
* Sometimes wouldn't switch between playlists
* Would produce a "link err" and produce static until ignition off
* Often ignored track changes

So I've pulled it out this morning and will be sending it back. But do I go for a replacement or fit a dedicated head unit? I've got a decent Pioneer units with iPod link sitting in the garage, so I'm tempted to fit that, but I'm worried about losing stalk control and the dash display...

Any ideas?

I`ve fitted a few Connects2 units to various Renault head units and never had any problems. I would go for a replacement and try that first, if only to retain the satellite control, once you get used to it you wonder how you ever did without it.

I fitted a Dension cradle to the Vel Satis and the other halfs car - very simple and straightforward.

I was thinking about going for that option as the integrated nature of the Connects2 is quite nice, but having thought it through the downsides of not so good sound and the lack of control over the iPod will annoy me over time, so I'm asking the supplier for a credit note.

I can get an adapter cable for the stalk control so it can control my Pioneer unit, so the only thing I'll miss is the dash-top display and integrated look of head unit - both of which I can live without on reflection.

With the Pioneer in I'll have stalk control (+ remote control if I take the remote out of the box), full iPod control and aux input (I've got that cable lying around) as well as 50 watts per channel and 2 sets of pre-outs for future expansion (no I'm not planning to replace my boot space with a censored off great bass tube!). Just need to sort out to better speakers now type
