Buying 406 coupe - what should I know?
Discussion
I'm in the market for a new car and was initially looking to spend no more than £3k. I may be able to stretch it to £4k for the right car.
The Peugeot 406 coupe has been a favourite for a whiole now, in particular the 3.0 V6.
What are my chances of finding an honest, unmolested, decent V6 (pref SE) for this money?
What should I be asking/looking out for?
I have links to 406 owners websites etc, but thought I'd ask here too.

You should know... that they're awesome!
Probably single handedly responsible for my current girlfriend, because when we started going out my old Merc was being repaired and I had a silver '99 V6 loan car!
By the time I sent it back it was too late and she was stuck with me .
But seriously, they're one of the few cars that really hits the spot for something I'd own. Quick, great sounding, fantastic looking, good handling, yet with normal car running costs, great practicality, you can park it on a street overnight and it won't attract attention, etc. Only the fact that they're front-wheel drive and not as hardcore as they could be, plus they don't quite stand out enough really puts me off. Subtle mods may help but it would be hard not to ruin it!
Not sure about their reliability, but based on a 406 they can't be that bad, usual French niggles I'm sure?

Ah, Podie. You get around (replied also to my Mondeo ST24 discussion - see appropriate thread).
This is just another one of the options that I'm investigating.

Just what are you inferring..!?!
I considered one for a while... well, a little while, then moved on. Dealer costs are high, they're French so bits fall off regularly, and to change the back spark plugs the dealer takes the bonnet off (old man had one as a company car once).

Bonnet off, that's awesome.
Ever seen what it's like to change all 12 plugs on a 993 Porsche? Bonnet off sounds easy!
The Bonnet off is a new one to me, I can't see that to be honest!
Not that it's hard to take a bonnet off!!
Any Citroen/Pug I've ever opened the bonet on alows you to open it to the verticle, and I'm sure the Plugs on the V6 are no where near the bulk head.
I got an Activa, by far the most complicated Citroen/Car ever made, and the only things that ever go wrong are things that I've done to her!!
and it's on 160,000 miles and still going strong!
My next car will be a Pug 406, V6 and you can get it with kind of Active suspension!

Yes, picked up my new V6 coupe on Tuesday. Was pushing my luck really by doing this as I got hitched on Friday! Never mind, I get to give the new motor a good blast as we're off up to Snowdonia tomorrow for a few days.
Did you find one? I used the 406 coupe club website for a bit of info on what to look for. They seem like a very friendly and helpful bunch on there.
